Has the Beidou "new transportation infrastructure" of the 5G era arrived?

The conference emphasized the need to accelerate the commercialization of 5G and promote high-quality development of the information and communication industry. Recently, 11 national ministries including the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport jointly issued the "Intelligent Vehicle Innovation and Development Strategy" (hereinafter referred to as the "Strategy"), which proposes to promote the coordinated construction of 5G and the Internet of Vehicles in conjunction with the commercial deployment of 5G.

In 2020, with the deployment of two Beidou geostationary orbit satellites in space, China's Beidou global system network will be fully completed. The deep integration and mutual empowerment of 5G and Beidou will bring unprecedented changes to various industries.
2: 5G+Beidou to build a smart transportation network

In the early stages of highway planning and construction in the future, the construction of 5G base stations, Beidou ground augmentation benchmark stations, and related intelligent systems along the highway should be included. It is necessary to combine the four dimensions of "end, management, cloud, and use" to integrate perception, transmission, computing, and intelligent applications.
So what is the investment value of 5G base stations in the transportation industry? Based on the initial construction cost of 500000 yuan for a single base station, the unobstructed coverage area of a single base station is 350 meters, and 3 base stations need to be built per kilometer, with a base station construction cost of 1.5 million yuan per kilometer. Transportation investment has the characteristic of economies of scale. Currently, the total length of highways in China exceeds 140000 kilometers. If we want to achieve full 5G coverage, we need to invest about 220 billion yuan. This is only the investment scale of highways. If it is extended to ordinary trunk highways, railways, waterways, etc., the investment scale will be in the trillions. As for the investment scale of the Beidou ground augmentation benchmark station, it is likely to be a considerable number.
